Lauren Shrigley
Lauren is a humanistic counsellor working integratively with person-centred, gestalt, and existential approaches. She is a registered member of the BACP.
Approach
Lauren Shrigley is a humanistic counsellor who offers a warm, confidential, and non-judgmental space where clients can speak openly and explore what is happening in their lives.
People seek counselling for many reasons, including feeling overwhelmed, experiencing emotional difficulties, feeling stuck, or wanting to gain a deeper understanding of themselves. Lauren provides a supportive environment where clients can reflect, develop insight, and move towards meaningful and lasting change.
Her humanistic approach views each client as a whole person, rather than a problem to be fixed. It recognises each individual’s inherent strengths, values, and capacity for growth. Rather than giving advice or directing sessions, Lauren supports clients to explore their experiences, understand their emotions, and identify what feels right for them.
Humanistic Counselling
Humanistic counselling is based on the belief that, given the right conditions, people have an innate ability to grow, develop self-awareness, and create positive change in their lives.
This approach focuses on personal meaning, choice, and authenticity, supporting clients to reconnect with their true selves and move towards a more fulfilling and balanced life.
Lauren integrates three key humanistic approaches into her work: Person-Centred Counselling, Gestalt Therapy, and Existential Therapy.
Person-Centred Counselling
Developed by Carl Rogers, person-centred counselling emphasises the importance of a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship.
Clients are met with empathy, respect, and acceptance, creating a safe and supportive space where they can express themselves freely, without fear of judgement. This environment can help clients build self-trust, develop greater confidence, and make choices that align with their values and needs.
Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt therapy focuses on present-moment awareness, including thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations.
This approach helps clients explore how past experiences or unresolved feelings may continue to influence their lives. Through increased awareness and gentle exploration, clients can gain insight into patterns, reconnect with aspects of themselves that may have been overlooked, and make more conscious, authentic choices.
Existential Therapy
Existential counselling explores themes such as meaning, purpose, freedom, responsibility, and relationships.
It provides space to reflect on life’s deeper questions and challenges, supporting clients to consider their choices and what matters most to them. Rather than offering fixed answers, this approach encourages greater honesty, self-awareness, and personal responsibility.
Working Together
Lauren tailors her approach to meet each client’s individual needs and goals.
Whether the focus is on emotional understanding, processing past experiences, building confidence, or finding clarity and direction, sessions move at a pace that feels safe and supportive.
Humanistic counselling is ultimately about connection, compassion, and personal growth - supporting clients to access their inner resources and move towards a more meaningful and authentic way of living.
